Customer Statement per mail

We would like to send the customer statement per mail, but it doesn't work. We have an mailserver (the settings are made).
I we print the statement it works but if we would like to send it per mail nothing happens.
What could be the problem?

Please observe that the regular forum language is German. English is only permitted if specific properties and issues of the localised versions in Germany, Austria or Switzerland are to be discussed.
